Hms are the ‘heads’ of quite large families – up to sixty boys or girls and a significant number of staff. The Hms not only know all the boys and girls tremendously well, they co-ordinate their welfare through the Matron, Tutors and other staff in the House and they are constantly aware of those under their care.
