Godiva Visits Rugby School

Imagineer Productions' 21st Century Godiva puppet paid a visit to Rugby School this week on its journey to London to celebrate the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Godiva Awakes is part of a series of 12 public art commissions across the UK to celebrate the Games. The puppet has been made by mechanics, artists, puppeteers and engineers from both home and abroad.

Powered by 100 cyclists, this grand scale, world class piece of art was set up outside the Chapel, when the Godiva puppet was 're-awoken' infront of an awe-inspired crowd, who were given the chance to learn more about her creation.

After Godiva's 'stroll' around the grounds, children were invited to ride on the 'Cyclopedia', a uniquely engineered cycle structure used to power her 'horse'.

* Lady Godiva lived in the 11th century and mythology says she rode naked through the streets of Coventry in a bid to get her husband to relieve the heavy taxes on the city's people.
