Our scholarship provision is designed to attract boys and girls of outstanding talent and skill in a variety of fields. We value scholarship of all sorts. Through the excellence of our academic provision and of our facilities we aim to foster high achievement at all levels and to challenge expectations. The interplay of teaching and learning, and the experiences to be gained from being part of a rich and diverse community, encourages all pupils to develop their talents and to emerge as confident, well rounded individuals.
All scholarships to Rugby carry a nominal fee reduction of 10% and all may be augmented to 100% of the fees subject to means testing. Applications for augmentation must be made to the Bursar, bursary@rugbyschool.net before the closing date for the award in question. Scholarships Breakdown
11+ ( Year 7) Academic Scholarships
A number of Academic Scholarships may be awarded. Candidates will have an interview based on several stimulus pieces that they will be able to consider on the day. These interviews take place on the same day as the entrance tests.
13+ ( Year 9) Academic Scholarships
The examination is held at Rugby in early May of Year 8. Only boys and girls who are under 14 at midnight on 31 August in the year the examination is taken may qualify. Candidates who were previously registered for entry and who do not obtain awards are normally admitted to the School on the result of the Scholarship Examination; in a very few cases candidates may be required to sit all or part of the Common Entrance Examination before admission.
16+ (Year 12) Academic Scholarships
Boys and girls aiming to enter the School after GCSE may compete for a number of Academic Scholarships. The Scholarship interviews are held at Rugby in mid-November of Year 11. Candidates must first take the Sixth Form Entrance Examination and those showing scholarship potential will be called for Scholarship interviews with the relevant Heads of Department.
Music Scholarships
A number of Music Scholarships are awarded each year at 11+, 13+ and 16+. At 11+ and 13+ the assessment auditions are held at Rugby School in late January or early February of the year of entry. At 16+ the assessment audition is held at Rugby School in November as part of the 16+ entrance procedure.
Art Scholarships
A number of Art Scholarships are awarded each year at 13+ and at 16+. At 13+ the assessment takes place at Rugby School in May of Year 8. Candidates may take this together with the 13+ Academic Scholarships. At 16+ the assessment takes place at Rugby School in November as part of the 16+ entrance procedure.
Design and Technology Scholarships
A number of Design and Technology Scholarships are awarded each year at 13+ and at 16+. At 13+ the assessment takes place at Rugby School in May of Year 8. Candidates may take this together with the 13+ Academic Scholarships. At 16+ the assessment takes place at Rugby School in November as part of the 16+ entrance procedure.
Sports Scholarships
A number of Sports Scholarships are awarded each year at 13+ and 16+ to candidates with outstanding ability or potential in the major team games for boys (rugby, hockey, cricket, tennis and athletics) or girls (hockey, netball, tennis and athletics). At 13+ the assessment takes place at Rugby in October of Year 8. At 16+ the assessment takes place at Rugby School in November as part of the 16+ entrance procedure.
