Our Games programme is extensive and an integral part of life at School. We offer a broad range of sporting opportunities, with a carefully nurtured balance between performance and participation. The most able sportswomen and men have every encouragement and support to achieve excellence, while almost all the pupils will represent the School in a competitive fixture during the year whatever their ability or enthusiasm.
The main Games sessions are on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons when all pupils are involved, but every other weekday afternoon will be used for some coached Games activity for a variety of age groups. Those pupils playing for teams in the major Games will generally train three times each week with a match each Saturday. Pupils in the F and E Blocks (Year 9 and 10) are expected to play the major Game in each term. Pupils in the D Block (Year 11) and above may choose from a wider range of options including the major Games, minor Games and recreational Games.
The major Games options for girls and boys are as follows:
| Girls | Boys | |
| Advent Term | Hockey | Rugby Football |
| Lent Term | Netball | Hockey Soccer (Upper School) |
| Trinity Term | Tennis Rounders Athletics |
Cricket Tennis Athletics |
Minor Games options involve fewer pupil numbers than the major Games and have a more restricted fixture list.
Our minor Games options include:
Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Polo, Rackets, Rugby Sevens, Sailing, Squash, Swimming, Water Polo
We also offer a programme of recreational Games for Upper School pupils.
The recreational Games options include:
Aerobics, Dance, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball
A range of games and physical recreations are offered as clubs in extra-curricular time as well. These include:
Ballet, Canoeing, Fencing, Gymnastics, Riding, Rifle Shooting, Table Tennis, Tae Kwon Do, Trampolining.

Our high quality coaching is delivered by a mix of full-time teachers and part-time professional coaches. They bring with them wide experience of playing and coaching our major and minor Games at representative or international level.
Every encouragement is given to talented games players to realise their full sporting potential whilst at School and to achieve representative honours. Recent former pupils have gone on to careers in professional cricket and Rugby football. Most of our major Games and some minor Games arrange tours within the UK or overseas that help to widen the sporting and cultural experience of the pupils and staff involved. Planned tours currently include Hockey and Netball to Barbados, Rugby Football to Ireland, Cricket to India and Rackets to the USA.

Each year Rugby School awards a number of Sports Scholarships for entry at both 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Year 12). Potential applicants are encouraged to contact the Directors of Boys' and Girls' Games via the Registry.
