Rugby School has always provided bursaries for day pupils through the Lawrence Sheriff Bequest. With the launch in 2003 of the Arnold Foundation for Rugby School, a registered charity, the School has been able to offer the same opportunity for boarders.
The sole purpose of the Arnold Foundation, which is funded entirely from voluntary donations, is to provide bursaries for pupils in boarding places at Rugby School. The Foundation does not seek gifts for capital projects.
Aims of the Arnold Foundation
- To transform lives and raise aspirations
- To find pupils who will truly benefit
- To ensure that within the next 10 years, 10% of pupils at the School are funded either through the Lawrence Sheriff Bequest (day pupils) or through the Arnold Foundation (boarding pupils).
- To raise sufficient funds to support these ambitious aims
A resounding finding on the independent evaluation of the Arnold Foundation, carried out in 2010 by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER), is that "the Arnold Foundation is providing life-changing opportunities for the young people it supports".
