Rugby School | 16+ Entry

16+ Entry

Offers of places at 16+ are conditional upon a candidate obtaining satisfactory grades at GCSE or the equivalent foreign examination. In the case of UK candidates, the minimum will be at least three B grades (in the subjects chosen for A Level if applicable) and three C grades at GCSE.

Places are allocated on merit. Academic attainment and potential are considered along with the contribution that boys and girls can make to extra-curricular activities.

The majority of places will be offered as a result of the Sixth Form Entrance Examination and the House interview. These are held in early November of the year preceding entry. A number of candidates will be invited to return to the School for Scholarship interviews.
Overseas candidates will be required to come to Rugby for the 16+ Examination and interviews in the November preceding entry.

Girls
The majority of new Sixth Form places are available in Stanley, but a limited number of  places may become available in the other girls’ boarding Houses and the day House.

Several Open Days for Sixth Form entry are held in the Advent Term prior to entry.

At the preliminary visit parents are given forms to complete should they decide to make a firm application. Before this application can be accepted, the Headteacher of their daughter’s present school must be informed.

Boys
There are usually a few places in the Lower Sixth for new boys (boarders and day) either by means of the Sixth Form Entrance Examination or, if the application is made after the Entrance Examination has taken place, by interviews held at Rugby with the Heads of Department in each of the subjects being considered for A Level, and with the Housemaster.
